Club 20-mile Handicap Road Race, Gleno, Wed 12th April 2017.
Good hard racing tonight. The scratch group making the catch before half distance in the 20-mile handicap race. Groups 2 and 3 worked very hard and should be proud they made a good race of it. Young Johnnie did well going the full distance once caught by G2. Young Chris was in superb form managing to jump in with the scratch group once caught and was in the mix of the final sprint. In the sprint for the line it was a photo finish between Gary McCullough and Richard Maybin. Gary just took the win by 2 inches. Gary McClune rode very well indeed and was a close 3rd. Katharine was a close 4th ahead of Andrew Steele in 6th. Chris Donald on his under 16 gearing was just a little bit behind the others taking a superb 6th place. 40 seconds later Stephen Farr led in the chasing group. Congratulations to Gary McCullough and to Richard who was so close to a win. Well done to all the riders on what was a cool night. Many thanks to all the Marshals and to Ronnie on the finish line. Congratulations to Michael on his first club road race win, finishing on his own just ahead of Gary Walker and Gary McCullough who were in a close sprint. Gary McClune was 4th only 3 seconds behind. All the Gary’s are looking good for this weekend Tour of Ulster along with Richard. We wish you well lads! Katharine rode strongly and was not far behind in 5th. Big Ken had a good night taking 6th. Chris seems to be having a better year with a good 7th. Young Johnnie showed great improvement with his well earned 8th. Duncan had a good steady race in 9th and was first + 50 home. Well done to the ladies and to the young lads Chris and Luke / Chris had to ride with a broken seat post clamp (low seat). Well done to everyone it was a good race tonight. Many thanks to all the Marshals and to Ronnie on the line. DR.

A good wee race tonight ending in a bunch sprint after the race was all together on the final lap of six. Ever improving under 16 Chris Donald was the rider who led the sprint at 100 metres to the line but, into the head wind faded a little and was overtaken by Gary Walker and Gary McCullough with 20 metres to go, however the young man held on strongly for a well deserved third place. Well done to Gary Walker on a good win and well done to all the riders! Many thanks to the Marshals and thanks to Ronnie on the finish line. DR.

Lisa has showed great improvement also! Young Johnnie rode a blinder too! Well done everyone! Thanks to Ronnie for Timing and to Bill Johnston and Roy Lennox for Marshalling. Note there was some mix-up re this being a Trophy race tonight. It was not! and the 25TT Trophy race is in August!. Many thanks! DR.
Club 28-mile Handicap Road Race, Watch-Hill Circuit (Ballyvallagh circuit roadworks) Wed 14 June 17.
Congratulations to Lisa on her well deserved win supported by Meta over the whole race and with 20 metres to go the girls were neck and neck and Lisa just edged the sprint. It was a strong effort by the ladies to finish 30 seconds ahead of the chasing bunch who had taken 6.30 off their 7 minute handicap. Andrew Cupples led the group in for a hard earned third place just ahead of Chris McKeown, Chris Wheeler and Duncan Jamieson. A little further back came Albert Douglas and Ken Brewster. Next in was Gary Walker who was scratch on his own. Gary was making good progress eating into his 9 minute handicap, but was unlucky to be held up by a Tractor at the Isle of Glass bends on Cairn Road, but never the less finished strongly only a few seconds behind Ken. Stephen Farr was a little further back having lost contact on lap 3 of 4. Many thanks to all the Marshals and to Ronnie for Timing the race. Thanks to Steven and Glenda Stewart for the tea after the race. DR.

Congratulations to Gary McClune who had the turbo running red hot to record a fast time tonight. Roy dug deep too for second place, as did Joanne for third. Gary McCullough was not running on full power tonight but wins the handicap section within the race. Well done all and thanks for supporting the race. DR.
Club 30-mile Handicap Road Race, Bellahill, Wednesday 5th July 2017.
Congratulations to Katharine who had a superb win against 5 strong scratch men. Katharine broke clear of the scratch group on Beltoy Road / before the turn up Bellahill and powered her way to the top of Bellahill and for 3/4 of a mile to the finish line winning with 6 seconds to spare, before her brother Richard won the 5-man sprint for second place with Gary Walker, Gary McCullough and Michael Boal close behind. Curtis came in 4 seconds later to take 6th place. Chris Wheeler and Ken were next home with a sprint finish, Chris took that one. Stephen Farr had his work cut out for him when Lisa was closing in on him sprinting for the line. Stephen had to go for full power to finish ahead such was the power Lisa was putting down. Young Johnie had a very good race finishing 11th. Meta battled away and took 12th ahead of Albert who was suffering with leg pain on the last lap. Duncan was suffering too with cramp and did well to finish, as did young Chris who had very bad cramp on the final lap after being in contension for 5 of the 6 laps. Young Luke had a good steady 3 laps along with his Dad who looked after his safety on the road. Bad luck for Chris McKeown who did not finish as he was not feeling the best. A good night’s racing all round and good hard training for the open events. Many thanks to all the Marshals listed below and to Bill Johnston who kindly helped us once again. Also thanks to Ronnie on the finish line. DR.
Club 23-mile Handicap Road Race Brown’s Bay, Wednesday 26th July 2017.
Congratulations to Michael on a hard earned win, on what turned to be a poor night with a thunder storm blowing through for most of the race. Micheal did not have it all his own way, having lost Katharine with a puncture on lap 3 of 4 Michael caught Chris and the young lad was strong enough to match Michael on the final lap. Taking it right to the line Chris just missed out in a close sprint by one second and took a well deserved second place. The 8 minute handicap to Chris and 3 minute handicap to Michael was a bit to much for the three scratch men / the three Gary’s to claw back and it was Gary Walker who won the sprint for third place 2.05 behind the winner. Gary McClune was fourth at 2.08 behind and Gary McCullough fifth at 2.21 behind. Gallant Duncan battled strongly finishing at 2.29 behind the winner. My hat goes off to all the riders tonight for taking part and riding through such a storm! Many thanks to all the listed Marshals and to Steven Stewart for his help on very wet night for Marshals too. DR.
Club 25-mile Handicap Trophy Time Trial, Woodgreen A26, Wednesday 2nd August 2017.
Congratulations to Chris winning on an old bike he fired together for the race. His good one is packed away for Canada where Chris leaves us for in a few weeks time. We wish Chris and his family every success for the future! Gary McCullough rode a blinder recording a PB to take second place. Gary Walker, Jeremy, Katharine and Lisa all rode to their high standard recording good times. The ever improving Chris Wheeler recorded a PB and just missed dipping under the hour by a wisker. Big Gary McClune slipped back a little due to adjusting his bike too much causing a painfull race for him. Meta was delighted with her PB saying it was the best weather on this course all season. Steven and Graham had the Tandem out for the first this season and with no real training did ok I thought. It was nice to see Bill out racing again after his spill a few months ago. Not able to use Tri bars and still in pain he did very well indeed. Many thanks to Ronnie for timing the event and to Stuarty for kindly Marshalling. (Handicap times to be completed later). DR.
Club 2-mile Hill Climb, Carncastle, Wednesday 9th August 2017.
Congratulations to Richard on winning the Hill Climb on a tough night into a strong head wind. Were it not for the head wind, the course record of 8m 45s set by ace climber Stephen Harkens back in 2013 may have been in danger such was the power of Richard tonight. Gary McClune won the second place trophy with an impressive ride, and Gary Walker won the third place trophy with another great ride. Young Chris is now starting to show how strong he has become this year with a 10.46 into a strong head wind. Plus 50 Vet Chris Wheeler is another rider who has had a great season and a good ride tonight. Andrew Cupples in his first year racing rode the climb very well indeed, as did plus 50 Vet Duncan. Thelma who is well into her 50s thought she would give it a try and recorded a good time into the wind / well done Thelma! Young Luke under 12 rode a blinder for his age on a hard night / well done Luke! Well done to all the riders! Thanks to Ronnie for Timing the Hill Climb. DR.
Club 10-mile Time Trial Handicap Trophy, Oldwood Road A26, Wednesday 16th August 2017.
Congratulations to Richard on his superb win on a night that had a bit of wind, but no rain as forecast thank goodness. Congratulations to Chris Donald on winning the Handicap Trophy after taking over two minutes off his PB. Well done everyone / real good times recorded tonight accounting for the conditions. Many thanks to Ronnie for Timing the race and to Roy for helping with the Marshalling. DR.
Club 28-mile Handicap Trophy Road Race, Wednesday 23 August 2017.
Congratulations to big Ken on a superb win tonight and winning the Handicap Trophy too! Group 2 worked really well to stay clear of the chasing group 3. However having lost Duncan and then Stephen after 2 and a 1/2 laps of 4 in the 28-mile race Ken and Chris pushed on and picked up Bill who was riding really strong. Young Johnny was also riding well but the under 14 rider could not hold the wheels and dropped back a little. It was Ken who just had the edge in the closing 100 metre sprint reaching the finish line just 1 second ahead of Chris. Just 15 seconds behind came Bill for well deserved 3rd place. The scratch group 3 then caught Johnny and sprinted it out for 4th place with Gary Walker finsishing strongly well clear of Stephen, Gary McClune, and Michael. Katharine and Gary McCullough were next home 4 seconds behind Michael. Johnny was next home and then Andrew and Duncan. Well done to all the riders on a wet old night. Thanks to Chris , Thelma, Albert, Steven and Colin for Marshallig and to Ronnie on the Finish Line. DR.
Club John Lindsay 10-mile Time Trial Trophy, Ballygalley, Wednesday 30th August 2017.
Well done Gary fastest time tonight on what is a slow course. Good ride by Chris too. Ken has been improving this last few weeks and a good time tonight. Congratulations to Dr Andrew Cupples on winning the John Lindsay Handicap Trophy, Andrew has had a good first season with the club. Meta, Bill and Joanne all vets rode well on the tough course. Young Johnnie give it a good go and was very close to winning the Trophy / only a few seconds away! Young Luke give it a go and his 32.36 is very good for his age and on a hard course. Many thanks to Steven Stewart for Marshalling and to Ronnie for Timing the race. DR.
