HIP HIP HOORAY! TEAM MADIGAN GO OVER THE MOURNES

Sunday October 7th 2018, and in a freezing cold morning in Downpatrick, an intrepid band of Team Madigan riders, assembled for The Granite Challenge over Spelga Dam. Shane McGeown, Ken Logan, Chris Wheeler, Ivan McFarland and David Currie set off on what is probably the last and arguably the toughest of the seasons many Sportives. Action Mental Health Granite Challenge, follows the County Down Coast from Downpatrick, through Ardglass, Newcastle and Annalong, before turning right over the Mournes at Spelga, then a headlong descent through Bryansford and back to Downpatrick. At least that was the plan. A tumble not far from the start, ended the trip for Shane, who dislocated a finger in a pile-up when the way ahead was obstructed by a stalled peloton. The trip over for Shane, the others finished the course without further mishap. A noteworthy fact about the day, was that two of the group are still recovering from recently broken hips. Remarkable achievement guys; HIP HIP!
